If you haven’t volunteered for Pacific Cup…what are you waiting for?  There are things to volunteer for no matter where your interest lies.  You can escort boats into the Club after they finish, leis and trays to bring refreshments to boats when they dock, communicating with the boats as they make the crossing, and lots of other things.  There are sign up sheets all over the Club so be sure to jump in and lend a hand.

Deckhands

Keep checking in the locker for new shopping opportunities.  Many new things will be arriving soon so that we have a full stock for the Pacific Cup.  You, our KYC members, will have first shot at buying!!  All these locker proceeds go to fund our children's endeavors and gifts to the Club.  You will soon be seeing details for the upcoming Jazz on the Bay concert that will be held the week of Pacific Cup.

Don’t prune yet!

We will need your tropical flowers and foliage to decorate the Club for Pacific Cup Week, July 17 - 25. We decorate the clubhouse, a large tent and tables all week long and it takes a lot of flowers and greenery.  Please let us know what you think you can supply by email to Frannie Haws at frannieh@prodigy.net.  There is also a signup sheet on the newly dedicated Pacific Cup board at the Club.

Pacific Cup is coming again this year.  The Pacific Cup mooring committee will be offering slip holders temporary slips away from the Club for the two weeks closest to the expected finish.  We have had outstanding cooperation in the past, and look forward to more this year.

Please think about the many areas to volunteer for Pacific Cup this year.  We will have opportunities for everyone. There are several committees that will be looking for help, such as Mooring, Communications, Finish Line, and so forth.  There is already a sign up sheet for Escort committee in Ma Schultz’s lounge and they are looking for Captains and Crews.  New members are welcome, and it is a great way to meet other members of the Club.

Here's to the beginning of a new spring and looking forward to a great spring and summer full of activities (including the Pacific Cup featuring Jazz Night, courtesy of the Deckhands), expansive selections for your shopping pleasure in the Locker and extended shopping hours during the Pacific Cup.

The 2010 Pacific Cup yacht race is just around the corner and we are still looking for power boats, captains, and crew to assist the Escort Committee in guiding participating yachts safely into Kaneohe Bay.  If you would like to get involved, but haven’t done it before and want to know more about it, call Iwalani Stone.

If you don’t have a boat, but would like to crew on someone else’s boat, that can be arranged.  We always have skippers looking for crew! Training sessions and familiarization runs will be conducted long before the yachts are scheduled to finish.  The first start in San Francisco is July 5th and the last boats leave July 10th.  The awards banquet is scheduled for Friday July 23rd at KYC…hopefully all yachts will have finished by that time!  Heaviest (crunch-time) escorting period is expected to be July 18th thru July 21st.

We’re in the process of lining up the Escort Team, so call now! Sign-up sheets are also posted at the club.  Check out the website for Pacific Cup: www.pacificcup.org for the entry list, calendar, and much more.
